Amr Shabana is the 2014 New York ‘Tournament of Champions’ winner.

In an amazing run he beat Gregory Gaultier (No.1 seed) in the Final at Grand Central Station 3-0 (11-4  13-11 11-8) to claim his 3rd ToC title  – and the last one was 8 years ago!

And on the way he beat the seeds 2 & 4 in Nick Matthew and James Wilstrop to seal an amazing win for the No.7 seed.

Nicol David beat Laura Massaro in  the women’s W.S.A. final to take her 1st ToC championship and she was delighted to do it saying “I get goose bumps every time I walk into Grand Central.”

It’s great to see 2 legends of the game on the top of their games.

The 2014 New York ‘Tournament of Champions’ reaches the quarter finals today and things are about to get interesting as all top 8 seeds (except Karim Darwish) in the P.S.A. Draw are through to challenge for the $115K prize fund, with the final this Friday.

However there are a couple of surprises in the women’s W.S.A. $50K draw though with Madeline Perry and Sarah-Jane Perry (no relation) causing the upsets against the No.3 & No.7 seeds.

The 2014 New York ‘Tournament of Champions’ quarter finals are now half way through and there is a shock result to report as Nick Matthew (PSA No.1) lost to Amr Shabana in a tough 3-2 result. Amr said ”I had to play at my very best to beat him. I had a game plan I stuck to it and thankfully it worked” as he won the grueling match 9/11 12/10 11/7 2/11 11/9.

This will set up a clash with James Wilstrop on Thursday. James beat fellow countryman Peter Barker 3-1 in the other quarter-final played last night.

The final 2 matches will be on tonight as Gregory Gaultier takes on Simon Rosner and Mohamed El Shorbagy plays Daryl Selby to edge closer to the $115K prize fund, and the final this Friday.

However there are a couple of surprises in the women’s W.S.A. $50K draw though with Madeline Perry and Sarah-Jane Perry (no relation) causing the upsets against the No.3 & No.7 seeds. However apart from this the rest of the top 8 are through to today’s semi-final.
