Harrow’s Craig Valente-Wallace Finishes 4th top Junior in the Highland Open
Craig’s first round qualifying match for a place finishing in the top 8 of the Highlands Senior B was against Glasgow’s Dougie Macmillan.
After a slow start to the match (going 2-0) down, Craig managed to regroup and win the tie break in the 3rd. And with momentum now behind him he also won a closely contested 4th game. However Dougie showed great class and managed to close the match out in the 5th.
After this narrow defeat, the man from Fife then went on to win his remaining 3 matches, Beating Martin Ross- 3-1, Dave Ireson 3-1 and in the final playoff match for placings he also beat Glasgow’s Ross Andrew 3-1.
All this meant that Craig finishing 9th overall and top 4 of the Scottish Juniors, which should be excellent preparation for his next tournament which is the Danish Junior Open in Copenhagen at the start of October (tough life as a top junior eh!!)
Congratulations Craig and good luck in Danishland!!
DLWE v Newlands 2 – Home (Match Report) 26th September 2013
So another new season begins and a tough start for us, as one of the newly promoted teams, to face up against Newlands’ second team. But then that’s what Division 1 squash is all about, so we’ll just have to get used to it.
First on tonight for us was Sean (Norris) against James Singh at No:3 – now I’ve seen Sean play better than this, but to be fair I’m not sure it would have made much difference tonight. James moved beautifully around the court, despite a (slightly) injured knee and he was always in charge of this match. This was a typical first game of the season match from Sean and I’m sure he will tighten up and get quicker. So 3-0 to Newlands and we were still looking for our first point of the season.
Next on at number 4 was David (Craig) against Stewart Brumpton. Now this game had a 5 setter written all over it, as it was the battle of the chasers.

West K.O. Cup v SSRC (away) 4th Sept 2013
SSRC away tonight and when I arrived I saw John Dunlop (CEO of Scottish Squash) and wondered if he was here to do offer me an international call up!?!?! Unfortunately not!
First on was Jason Grinton v Chris Farrell and Kev Cameron v Steve Carlin at No.3 & 4 respectively. I marked the first of these two and Chris was always in control of this one. He played short really well he caught Jason with this tactic time after time. Jason was always on the back foot because of this and Chris managed to take the game 3-0. A good performance non-the-less by Jase.
I missed most of Kev’s game v Steve C, but I certainly heard it. The shouts of “What are you talking about referee!” and “What the ****!” were easily audible.

The standard is certainly hotting up in the RASTA tournaments and it’s fabulous to see the sport develop and also to see so many new faces to the sport via Division 2.

Results of the 1st RASTA Racketball Tournament of the Season @ Glasgow’s David Lloyd West End Club
It was a fantastic start to the Racketball season at David Lloyd in Glasgow’s West End as a 30 strong field lined up to produce the 2013’s 1st Ranking List of this year’s Saltire Tour.
The Premier Division saw the top two from last year’s Ranking List compete for top spot. The winner was Richard McBride from Colinton Castle in Edinburgh who won 2-1 in a tightly contested final.
Scotland Reach Semi-finals in the European Team Champs
It was a fantastic result for Scotland’s Mens team as they reached the Semi-finals in the European Team Championships at the weekend and finished 4th in Europe.
The team was Alan Clyne, Greg Lobban, Doug Kempsell, Chris Small, Stuart Crawford and Kevin Moran and this is the second year in a row that the team has place 4th in Europe, which is a wonderful achievement.

West win 4 of the 5 titles (Tayside & Fife take U19s)
West of Scotland Juniors stole the show with a flurry of gold medals, but were denied a all the titles by Tayside & Fife last weekend.
The first ever event at Scotland’s 2014 Commonwealth squash facility saw 108 players, representing the country’s best juniors, meeting at the new courts at the Scotstoun in Glasgow.
For Tayside & Fife, last year’s winners Elspeth Young, Craig Valente-Wallace and David Beaumont stepped up an age group and along with Calum Johnston and Rory Irwin denied the West a full winning streak again. The gold medal decider was against the West and after losing the first two matches, Tayside & Fife had to win the final two to win the title. David Beaumont & Elspeth Young stepped up to the challenge and took both matches 3-0.
David Ward, Chairman of SSRC (the oldest members squash club in Scotland), presented the prizes at what is hoped to be the first of many events at the Scotstoun facility.
