Jack Orr, Maddie Orr & Ben Orr at the Scottish Open (all Harrow sponsored!)
Jack, Maddie & Ben are looking forward to 2017 as the Scottish Squash Junior Open begins hard on the heels of Hogmanay from the 7th January.

All Sponsored by Harrow – Ben, Maddie & Jack)
The prestigious ‘Scottish Junior Open’ is being played at two venues this year as both ‘Edinburgh Sports Club’ and ‘The Grange Club’ in Edinburgh share the European Tour Tournament for the first time.
And the Orr family are getting ready as Jack & Maddie (under-17 category) & Ben (under-15s) are among the leading home challengers for the tournament, which will feature players from all over the world.
The Open takes place from 7-9 January and the Orrs are hoping to continue a great tradition of success for Crieff High School players including Scotland’s senior capped players Rory Stewart, Claire Gadsby.
Best of luck to Maddie, Jack, Ben and all the other Harrow sponsored players who will be competing in 2017.
British Junior Open 2016

Not many Scots in the British junior Open this year (I only saw 2) so come on Georgina and Alasdair. Also from a purely ‘nephew-tistic’ point of view I’m hoping the Surrey Boys do well in the U19’s.
2015 Best West Juniors – Prize-giving Sponsored by Harrow
Harrow were proud to Sponsor the Junior Leagues this year and we were delighted that so many players and teams got involved (9 teams and around 80 players).
Giffnock were the West’s winning team, but there were also prizes for the best Junior Boy and Best Junior girl.
Best Junior Girl was won by Elena Murio from DLWE who played 14 fixtures and won 7 (improving her ranking by 480 points, which was the highest for any girl in the league! In fact for anyone I think!)
The Best Junior Boy in the West Junior Leagues was
Kevin Lynch Small who played for Scotstoun and had a ‘played 17 won 10‘ ratio which was an excellent achievement.
Both players are pictured with their West Trophy’s and Harrow Prizes for winning their category.
Well played to everyone who took part and here’s to next season.

Whitecraigs LT&SC 2014 Club Championships
The last two weeks has seen the Whitecraigs LT&SC 2014 Club Champions crowned and in the Men’s Tournament there was a hell of a final between Iain McDermott and Steve Luker.
Steve took the early exchanges and won the first two games and looked in total control. He volleyed well and didn’t let Iain have a sniff of the ball let alone the ‘T’. But Iain is renound for coming back from some pretty tight situations and that’s exactly what happened in this match. He began lengthening the rallies and getting Steve behind him. He also began reading Steve’s drops much better and crunching them to a length any time he saw them. So 2-1 soon became 2-2 and so to the 5th!
By now you could see that Steve was tired, but so was Iain. It was still anyone’s game to win. Steve needed to control the match more and find the corners and Iain needed to keep doing what he was doing. The crowd was deep in discussion about who would do it.
The 5th game was another high paced affair and as Steve faded Iain powered on to take the match and become the 2014 Men’s Champion. It was a great match to watch.
The Junior Club Championships were played the next week and this was a good quality tournament played as a round-robin. It all came down to the final match between Oliver Millen and Mark Taylor.
Both players had maximum points going into the final so it was winner take all. The final was a great display of determination and power. Both lads love to wallop the ball and both hate losing to each other (despite the fact they’re friends). Oli was nervous and Mark was determined to run everything down.
However a season in the Wednesday Men’s teams proved to be the difference in this match as Oli was able to move Mark around the court and keep him in the back. Mark did run many of Oli’s shots down, but in the end Oli was just too consistent and too experienced as he won the match 3-0 and became the 2014 Junior Club Champion.

Harrow’s Craig Valente-Wallace Finishes 4th top Junior in the Highland Open
Craig’s first round qualifying match for a place finishing in the top 8 of the Highlands Senior B was against Glasgow’s Dougie Macmillan.
After a slow start to the match (going 2-0) down, Craig managed to regroup and win the tie break in the 3rd. And with momentum now behind him he also won a closely contested 4th game. However Dougie showed great class and managed to close the match out in the 5th.
After this narrow defeat, the man from Fife then went on to win his remaining 3 matches, Beating Martin Ross- 3-1, Dave Ireson 3-1 and in the final playoff match for placings he also beat Glasgow’s Ross Andrew 3-1.
All this meant that Craig finishing 9th overall and top 4 of the Scottish Juniors, which should be excellent preparation for his next tournament which is the Danish Junior Open in Copenhagen at the start of October (tough life as a top junior eh!!)
Congratulations Craig and good luck in Danishland!!
The 2013 Scottish Junior Inter-Regional Teams
West win 4 of the 5 titles (Tayside & Fife take U19s)
West of Scotland Juniors stole the show with a flurry of gold medals, but were denied a all the titles by Tayside & Fife last weekend.
The first ever event at Scotland’s 2014 Commonwealth squash facility saw 108 players, representing the country’s best juniors, meeting at the new courts at the Scotstoun in Glasgow.
For Tayside & Fife, last year’s winners Elspeth Young, Craig Valente-Wallace and David Beaumont stepped up an age group and along with Calum Johnston and Rory Irwin denied the West a full winning streak again. The gold medal decider was against the West and after losing the first two matches, Tayside & Fife had to win the final two to win the title. David Beaumont & Elspeth Young stepped up to the challenge and took both matches 3-0.
David Ward, Chairman of SSRC (the oldest members squash club in Scotland), presented the prizes at what is hoped to be the first of many events at the Scotstoun facility.
Return of the YoungSTARS – 17th March 2013
The YoungSTARS returned to David Lloyd in the West End this weekend when we held a mini-tournament on Sunday.
The aim was to give all the players as many matches as possible in an afternoon, so two mini-leagues followed by a play off match, guaranteed each competitor a minimum of 5 matches (best of 3 – PAR 11) and judging by the effort and red faces I think they’ll all sleep well tonight.
Players from David Lloyd West End, The Glasgow Academy, Whitecraigs LT&SC and Whitecraigs Rugby Club all competed. Many thanks to John Kirby for organising the players and the tournament with me.
