Harrow’s Chris Leiper won the 2009/10 ‘Peter Nicol Grampian Junior Player of the Year’ award this season and not only that but Peter was on hand to present the trophy in person.
Chris has had many successes this season including a top 3 finish in the Under 17s at the Welsh Junior Open , top 3 in the Under 17s Scottish Nationals (both events were European Grand Prix event) and Chris has been selected to represent Scotland at No.1 for the under 17s European Team Tournament this May in Prague.
All this and he’s Ranked at number 2 in Scotland for the under 17s. Congratulations Chris on a fantastic year’s squash.
Harrow’s Peter O’Hara Wins The 2009/10 West Closed
Peter O’Hara (Newlands) won The 2009/10 West Closed Title at SSRC this weekend by beating Owen Hadden (Giffnock) in the final on Sunday. The match was 3-0 to Peter and although he always seemed to be in charge of proceedings Owen did make life tough for him by getting a couple of good leads in the individual games, especially the 2nd.
However when he was under pressure Pistol Pete always seemed to find another nic, which left Owen wondering what he had to do to keep the pressure on. Another impressive West Closed win for Peter and his 11th Title. (pic left Peter O’Harrow!!) To see all results click here
In the ‘B’ event Norman Patterson (Wishaw) came back from 2-0 down to beat Ashley Stevenson (David Lloyd West End) in an epic 5 games (results here) and Kieran O’Neill (Whitecraigs Rugby) won the ‘C’ event final 3-1 (results here) against Maggy Dick (from SSRC).
Blair Christie Joins Harrow
I’m delighted to announce that Blair Christie is the newest member of the Harrow Squash Team and will be playing and coaching with the Harrow Vapor.
Blair is an ex-Scotland International at Under 16 & 19 and was Scottish No 1 for around 18 months at Under 19; as well as being U19 Scottish Champion (he also captained the U19 team at the Worlds in Hong Kong and the European Championships in Denmark).
All-in-all Blair received around 50 caps at all levels (including Senior B squad several times in home internationals – and this was in the days when Scotland had Peter Nicol/Colin Keith/Peter O’Hara/Barry Sutherland etc) and he’s now developing squash in Central Scotland where he has recently started coaching.
Another great name plays with Harrow!
Peter O’Hara Joins Harrow
Ex-Scottish International, Scottish over 35’s No.1, Coach, West League No.1 for Newlands Peter O’Hara has done it all in Scotland and I’m delighted to announce that he is now going to continue his squash career using Harrow rackets.
Peter was impressed by the weight and feel of the Harrow Vapor and felt it was the right time to make a change to the new racket. And I’m really looking forward to seeing the ball being fizzed all over the court by ‘Pistol Pete’ wielding his new weapon!

Harrow 1-2-3 in the Scottish Nationals

The 2010 Scottish Junior Nationals saw Harrow’s Kirsty Lobban (left) win the girls U15 age group and Gillian Crawford come 2nd in the girls U19 and Chris Leiper (right) added a 3rd place in the boys U17s to complete the Harrow 1-2-3.
David Lloyd Renfrew’s Morgan Maguire won the girls Under 17s and there was also an all David Lloyd semi-final in the boys U15s between Ben Mazzucco (from the Glasgow West End Club) who was just piped by the eventual U13 winner Jason Lang (from the Renfrew Club).
And the future is looking bright for the West as another two players took the honours in the U13s with Harry Anderson of Whitecraigs RFC winning his first national title and Adam Reid from Whitecraigs LTC/Newlands winning the U11s.

Another Tough Draw for Alan Clyne
After qualifying for the £40K Motor City Open in Michigan, Alan managed to draw the top seed (and Tournament of Champions semi-finalist) Karim Darwish. And despite a good performance in the first game he lost in three games by 11-9 11-7 11-4. Details are all available here
Alan Clyne Out Against Greg Gaultier (PSA No.4) in 1st round of New York Tournament of Champions
Unfortunately Alan lost in the 1st round of the Tournament of Champions, but he put in an improved performance against Gregory Gaultier (who is 64 places above him in the PSA rankings) since their last encounter at the World Open.

Kirst Lobban Wins Scottish Junior Open Squash Title
Kirsty Lobban was titled Under 15’s Scottish Junior Open Champion 2010 and she was the only Scot to achieve the honour at this years European Tour Event. Kirsty (pictured left with her Harrow racket, receives her winner’s trophy from SSq President Ron Pearman) did it in style, only dropping one game throughout the whole tournament and winning the final 3-0 against fellow Scot Claire Gadsby.
Chris Ferguson also had a great tournament in the U19 category, only being piped 3-1 by the eventual winner Chris Schnell, from Canada, in the 3rd round (and eventually finishing 5th).
