YoungSTARS Junior Squash Tournament in Glasgow
This weekend (12th & 13th Dec ’09) saw over 50 YoungSTARS play the Christmas Tournament at Newlands. Billy Stevely, the Giffnock coach, brought a very strong contingent who took 8 of the prizes on offer.
Emma Ford and myself ran the Harrow sponsored tournament on Saturday morning for the younger players and Sunday afternoon for the older ones and we were delighted with the 53 players who participated and we were also very impressed with the ever improving standards on show.

Results of the Western Squash Doubles Tournament
There was a great turn out for the inaugural Western Doubles tournament in Glasgow this weekend with 16 players competing in two round-robin groups which produced seedings for a knockout rounds after this.
In Group A the top teams were Martin Woods/Gavin Dillon and also Paul Sweeney/Ross Lawrie and in Group B they were Owen Hadden/Morgan Maguire and Mat Mackie/myself.
The best of 3 semi-finals saw Martin/Gavin lose to v Paul/Ross and in the other semi Owen/Morgan were very narrowly piped by Mat/me (15-13 in the 3rd game).
So with 30 seconds break (!) the final was underway and it was the youngsters (Paul/Ross in case you’re in any doubt!) who took the honours in 3 games, winning 15-11 in the last game. Thanks to Logie and Western for getting everyone there, as it was a great fun tournament and all involved appeared very keen to do it again in the New Year.
Stuart’s Out of Fairmount’s PSA Squash Open
