2010/11 West Closed
What a match in the 2011 West Closed final and the quality between the 2 local lads was as good as you’d see between any two Scots anywhere in the country. Peter O’Hara was certainly the favourite going into the tie, but you underestimate Barry Sutherland at your peril!
The first game saw Peter take a good early lead and Barry was taking time to get used to the pace and (bizarre) angles Peter played. The early lead ‘Pistol Pete’ took was never surrendered and it wasn’t long before he sealed the 1st game, but Barry was just showing signs of adapting to the power.
In the 2nd game Barry was able to deal with the early exchanges and he didn’t let Peter get a lead and in the mid part of Read more…
West and Harrow Players Shine at the Junior Inter-Regionals
West Squash had a great Inter-regional tournament this year winning at Under 11, U13 and U17 level (and coming 2nd at U15).
All the Harrow sponsored players dominated their events at the Tournament as Douglas Macmillan, Kirsty Lobban, Findlay McDonald all had 100% win records (and Rosie Allan also had some good results). In fact Kirsty and Findlay lead the Highlands & Islands Region to a win in the Under 15 competition.
Congratulations to the West and Harrow Stars

Harrow’s Alan Clyne at British Nationals
Unfortunately Alan Clyne lost his game yesterday as went out to Tom Richards the No.6 seed in the British National Championships in Manchester.
Tom now goes onto play Nick Matthew in the Semi-final today and in the other half it looks like going with the seeding as James Wilstrop and Daryl Selby (the No.2 & 3 seeds) play their quarter finals tonight against Jonathan Kemp and Chris Ryder respectively, but you never know!

Alan rose 6 places in the February PSA rankings and must be delighted with his steady progress toward the World’s top 32 players.
Many congratulations Alan.

2011 PSA Tournament of Champions Final in New York
The final of the 2011 PSA Tournament of Champions in New York was won by the Ramy Ashour in a 52 minute master class at New York’s Grand Central Station. Ramy took the match to Nick Matthew in the 1st game, with an 11-3 demolishing, but the World No.1 fought back in the 2nd to level things up 1-1.
However it was the young Egyptian who was able to keep his lead in the 3rd & 4th games and hold the Englishman at arms length as he pressed home his advantage 11-9 11-7.
A jubilant Ashor said “The really good thing about tonight is that I was moving well and was in touch with my body.” (a reference to his injury prone season). And to top things off for Ramy his mum was there (for the first time in 5 years) to see him lift the title.

Artemis BSPA & WISPA Events at Edinburgh Sports Club
Daryl Selby and Dominique Lloyd-Walter were crowned 2011 Champions at the BSPA and WISPA Artemis Squash Tournament at Edinburgh Sports Club this weekend.
Daryl beat the very exciting and attaching Andy Whipp (No.3/4 seed) in three straight games. And although the quality of the match was excellent it was always going to be physically tough for both players to raise their game’s after both had tough 3-2 victories in the semi-finals (Daryl’s lasting an hour and a half!)
Dominique also won 3-0 against No.2 seed Orla Noom (from the Netherlands) and celebrated her first victory after a 6 month injury-forced lay off.
