Karim and Nicol won the prestigious title of Squash Player of the Year at The 2009 World Squash Awards hosted in London last weekend?

PSA Male Player of Year – 2005 Thierry Lincou, 2006 and 2007 Amr Shabana, 2008 James Willstrop – 2009 Karim Darwish

WISPA Female Player of Year – 2005 Vanessa Atkinson, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Nicol David – 2009 Nicol David

Nicol David ended the season on a good note with a fourth consecutive Wispa Player of the Year award.

At the World Squash Awards in London last weekend (promoted by Peter Nicol & Tim Garner through their sports marketing company ‘Eventis’), the world No. 1 piped world junior champion (14 year old) Nour El Sherbini of Egypt and (Harrow sponsored) Natalie Grainger in the vote by the membership of the Wispa Tour.

The 26-year-old Nicol won seven tournaments on the Wispa Tour this year, including a fourth World Open title as well as the World Games gold medal in Kaohsiung in July and is set to end the year as the top ranked women’s squash player for a fourth consecutive year.

Egypt underlined their status as the new force of world squash as they won the remaining honours.

PSA’s Player of the Year was Karim Darwish while world junior champion Mohamed El Shorbagy took the Young male Player of the Year award and the 14-year-old Nour El Sherbini was the pick for the Wispa Young Player of the Year award.
