Masters Over 40’s Men’s Team Triumph at Home Internationals

Scotland had an amazing result in Dublin last weekend as the Over 40 side, captain by Peter Buchan, led his team of Frank Ellis, Malcolm Kerr, Alan Thompson, Craig Thompson and Scott Wilson to claim the Home International Over 40s title by beating Ireland 3-2, England 4-1 and Wales 5-0.

This is the first time a Scottish men’s team has won a full “Home International Masters Championship” involving all 4 home nations.

A really fantastic result – many congratulations to the team.

Scottish Men Reach Semi-final of European Team Championships

The Scottish men’s and women’s teams are competing in Nuremberg (2nd-5th May) for the 2012 European Team Championships.

The men’s team have played a blinder to get themselves into contention for a top 4 finish by reaching the semi-finals (their best placing since 1999).

They’ve got a tough one against the England this afternoon, as Alan Clyne (using his Harrow Vapor racket), Chris Small, Stuart Crawford (also with a Harrow Vapor), Greg Lobban (Harrow Power Spark), Dougie Kempsell (also with a Harrow Spark) and Kevin Moran are the squad who have done the business so far.

Congratulations to the Team for a top 4 finish!

Scottish Open Racketball Championships 2012

Well it’s been all over the press (!) so you must have heard by now that the inaugural Scottish Open Racketetball Championships were held in Dumfries at the weekend (sponsored by Pathfinder Park Homes).

The tournament was a great successs with an ‘Open’ Championship as well as five different ‘Masters’ Tournamnets. The Tournament Director, Kieth Gristwood, organised the draws, the club, the catering, the sponsors, the players the markers, the trophies and even the night out on the Saturday (not to mention playing in the final; after a 5 set semi-final!). A great effort from all at Dumfries who helped him out.

And the Results? Well I thought I’d have a go as I’d no idea if I was any good or not and it turns out I’m OK, as I won the Open Tournament! Thankfully some of the “big guns” didn’t enter, but none the less I’m delighted and very proud to be the very first winner of the Scottish Championships.

Harrow’s Alan Clyne is Runner up in Irish Open

Alan Clyne was runner-up to Alister Walker in the 2012 PSA $25K Irish Open this weekend. The Scottish No.1 (seen left with his Harrow Vapor racket) beat the No.2 seed Boran Golan to get into Saturday’s final against the World No. 18.

The tough semi-final that lasted almost 2 hours, must have taken it out of Alan as he lost the final 11-4 11-6 9-11 11-3 in 54 mins.
